Civil Engineering (CE) is one of the oldest engineering disciplines. Its program contributes to driving the development wheel in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia due to its great importance in all branches of urban development (construction of buildings, dams, roads, designing tanks, implementation of water sewage, and irrigation networks, etc.). Graduates of the civil engineering program have job opportunities in both the government and the private sector.

Program Mission

To offer competitive higher education in Civil engineering within a supportive academic environment that prepares qualified civil engineers with vital employability skills, and to make research contributions, promote community engagement, and participate in realizing the Kingdom's Vision 2030.

Program Objectives
  1. Assurance/Improvement of quality of teaching and learning, quality of learning resources and quality of facilities, equipment, supporting infrastructure.

  2. Improvement of academic, social, psychological, and professional advising, counselling, and supportive services.

  3. Enhancement of the performance of faculty members and staff both professionally and academically.

  4. Improvement of the program’s administrative efficiency, processes, and procedures.

  5. Preparation of competent and qualified graduates with vital employability skills demanded in the labor market.

    • Enable graduates to demonstrate core knowledge in civil engineering using essential technologies and basic research skills.

    • Enhance students’ critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.

    • Improve students’ awareness of ethical values, principles of professional conduct, independence and autonomy.

  6. Contribute to the field of civil engineering through production of quality research in alignment with OC and program’s research priorities.

  7. Contribute to the local community through services, programs and consultations.

Program Learning Outcomes:
  • Identify fundamental CE concepts, principles, and theories in relation to other engineering disciplines as well as the underlying scientific and mathematical concepts.

  • Describe the basic characteristics, properties, and behavior of CE materials, through laboratory and field experiments/tests.

  • Discuss the basic elements and stages of CE projects, management processes, and research methods.

  • Recognize and demonstrate ethical values, safety provisions, and precautions, principles of professional conduct, political constraints, and sustainability requirements.

  • Simulate civil engineering problems using appropriate software tools.

  • Conduct appropriate field and laboratory experiments.

  • Critically analyze civil engineering problems and solutions, using appropriate mathematical and quantitative methods.

  • Design innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable civil engineering systems through appropriate research and technical resources.

  • Evaluate the impact of civil engineering solutions on global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.

  • Effectively communicate designs, technical data, digital models, inquiries and research results of civil engineering issues with a range of audiences.

  • Effectively participate in civil engineering projects and their decision-making groups to advance the discipline and society.

  • Act sensibly, independently, and autonomously in making design decisions within civil engineering projects.
